Introduction

The School of Nursing at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) offers a 3-year basic nursing program leading to the Registered Nurse (RN) diploma. The school opened in 1962 to provide nurse education and address the shortage of nurses in Nigeria.

To be admitted into the school, you must have at least 5 credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or its equivalent. The program curriculum includes both theory and practical components in general nursing, midwifery, community health, and other nursing specialties.

Courses cover anatomy and physiology, fundamentals of nursing, medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, obstetric and gynecological nursing, and community health nursing. Students also complete clinical rotations at LUTH and other facilities. Upon graduation, you will be eligible to take the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria professional licensure exam to become an RN.

The Lagos State University (LUTH) School of Nursing for newly admitted students in the Nursing Foundation Program for the 2024/2025 academic session is from 230,000 Naira.

Note:- Accommodation and other relevant fees are not part of the School Fees for new admitted students.

Admission Requirements and Application Process

To be admitted into the School of Nursing, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), you must meet the following requirements:

  • Applicants must possess five credits at not more than two sittings in the Senior Secondary School Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent. The credits should include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Candidates must be within the age of 17 to 25 years and must have score a above the limit cut off in JAMB examination.
  • Applicants must present a certificate of medical fitness from a government hospital. They must be physically fit and free from any communicable diseases.
  • The official Cut Off Mark that will be eligible for you to gain admission into LUTH School of Nursing is 150 and above. Interested candidates are advised to score above the limit Cut Off Mark.

Interested candidates who meet the admission criteria can apply through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). After taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), eligible candidates should participate in the School of Nursing screening exercise.

During the screening, candidates are required to submit their SSCE results, JAMB scores, birth certificates or declaration of age, and medical fitness certificates. The screening exercise comprises of a written examination and an oral interview. Successful candidates from the exercise will be offered admission into the School of Nursing, LUTH.
